Definition

  • A digital library is a collection of resources, potentially available in a variety of formats, and their description, in the form of metadata, that enable one or more communities access in order to allow further research into the subject, educate, inform, or entertain. A digital library must make publicly accessible at least one of the metadata (descriptive and/or bibliographic information) and/or data (digital copy) of each of the resources it collects. It may also offer specific services and/or tools to users such as advanced search functionalities, downloads in multiple format, or data manipulation.
