Definition
- A database models information into a structured set of data that is stored on a computer device in machine-readable form and accessible using dedicated software. In the context of this taxonomy a database may also refer to the data itself, as a collection of resources and their metadata (descriptive or other), and its organization, such as for example a database of textual inscriptions. A database may be accessible to users via a search interface on a website or in downloadable formats for local use.
