- A princess of the Seleucid Empire and, from 193 BCE, queen of Ptolemaic Egypt as the wife of Ptolemy V, Cleopatra I Syra (c. 204–176 BCE) played a significant political role. After her husband’s death, she served as regent during the minority of their son Ptolemy VI, governing with authority and ensuring stability during a critical phase of the Ptolemaic dynasty
